So much potential....

COULD APPLE BECOME MICROSOFT?

You have to wonder where the “canaries in the coal mines” are with companies… I started out in the 80s on a windows machine (A Leading Edge computer so funky you could practically hear the hamsters on the wheel inside driving it…).. I was THRILLED to get a mac… but during most of my career and user history, I’ve switched back and forth.

Currently, I have a MacBook Pro, which allows me to use Leopard and Vista.

So… what makes the difference? Many things — but the overall thing I’ve always felt about Mac v Windows is that Apple, at its best, anticipates my experience. From opening the box on a new computer to logging on to… well, you get the idea.

Lately, though, I’ve had experiences that are not so great. From the Apple Store, where they gave me bad advice on how to recover my serial number for an item I purchased there (and why they didn’t have the number on file is anyone’s guess), to the customer service line that switched me to 4 different people before I got the guy who couldn’t actually help me until I FAXED him information (a wasted hour there)… I’m starting to think Apple is expanding beyond it’s ability to keep the small things in the proper place.

It’s like Starbucks — used to be great, now it’s just another thing… I wonder if and when Apple will fall into that trap.
