doing fb friend requests. i only accept if I know them. some have 25-30 “friends in common” and yet i don’t know them. how can that be?

 

My Reply:

I think it works like this:

x person finds y person whom they know
x person sends friend requests indiscriminately to all of y’s friends… many of whom indiscriminately accept them as friends
indiscriminate y friend reaches out to x person’s friends… many of whom now are totally indiscriminate and random…

and so it goes, giving the lie to the social graph
