ANSWERING RICKY ABOUT TUMBLR
Ricky Van Veen has posted what he called a “takedown” of Tumblr… I prefer to think of it as a “friend of the court” brief…
You can read it HERE…
My response:
I agree with you about two things… and have mixed feelings about one…
AGREE:
- Yes, too much information is BAD. It’s why I hate Twitter. There’s more of a chance that my dog will type Ulysses than that I’ll get an intelligent Twitter message… Why? Because WRITING IS THINKING. Good writing reflects good thinking. It’s why we go through multiple drafts of anything… to get to what we REALLY want to say. (And, for many writers, to discover what it is they really want to say… most of us don’t know what we think until we start writing.)
- John Mayer should post more pictures of his food. And change his diet.
MIXED:
— On the other hand, I’m a VERY constricted blogger… I tend to think “that would be an interesting post,” but then never find the time to do 2-3 drafts and get to what I really want to say about something… I also value the other things I’m working on more than my blog… the world doesn’t need another blog… or does it? Is there something I COULD say that might be useful… I won’t know unless I start to write… which my Tumblr blog encourages me to do, by its ease of use.
And now this is ALL posted on Tumblr… Good or Bad?
